How to make turmeric soap step by step

What is Turmeric Soap?

Turmeric soap is a type of Natural Soap that incorporates turmeric as a key ingredient. Turmeric, a spice derived from the Curcuma longa plant, is well-known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties. When used in soap, turmeric can offer several skincare benefits:

  1. Brightening: Turmeric soap is often used to brighten the skin, reducing the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation.
  2. Anti-Inflammatory: It can help soothe skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis due to its anti-inflammatory properties.
  3. Antioxidant: Turmeric is rich in antioxidants, which can protect the skin from free radicals and environmental damage.
  4. Anti-Acne: Its antibacterial properties help in combating acne-causing bacteria, leading to clearer skin.
  5. Even Skin Tone: Regular use of turmeric soap can help even out the skin tone, making it appear more radiant and smooth.

How to use turmeric soap?

Don’t be too hasty — be sure to do a patch test first to check that you aren’t allergic. You can do this by applying some to your inner arm or wrist and covering it up with a bandage for 24 hours. If you experience any signs of irritation like burning or itching, don’t continue to use turmeric soap. Take a look at our other handmade, natural soaps instead.

If your patch test went well, you’re ready to start using your turmeric soap! You can use it on your face and/or body, but it’s recommended to use it only once a day because of the risk of staining your skin. After a few weeks, you’ll be noticing great results.

If applying turmeric on your skin doesn’t sound like your thing, turmeric in food and drink is also hugely positive for your health. Try regularly incorporating our Turmeric Spice Drops into your diet to feel the most benefits.

How to make turmeric soap at home?

homemade turmeric soap recipe:

  • Coconut oil 12 oz
  • Shea butter 8 oz
  • Sunflower oil 5 oz
  • Lye 3.66 oz
  • Water 8.18 oz
  • Turmeric powder 1.5 tablespoons

Instructions:

  1. Use a digital scale to measure out the water. Then add it to the heat-resistant container.
  2. Slowly add the lye to the water. Stir the lye into the water until dissolved. Note that the chemical reaction will cause it to heat up quickly. Set aside to cool to about 120-130°F.
  3. Melt the coconut and shea butter and sunflower oil in a small saucepan on the stove over medium heat.
  4. Once melted, set aside to cool slightly.
  5. Add all the oils to a metal mixing bowl.
  6. Pour the lye water in with the melted fat and oil a little at a time and mix with an immersion blender.
  7. Continue adding the lye water and mixing between each round until the soap comes to trace.
  8. To check the “trace,” hold the immersion blender over the bowl; if the soap drips and pools up on the top, it’s come to the correct trace.
  9. Whisk in the turmeric powder, or use the immersion blender to mix.
  10. Pour the soap into the mold and allow it to dry for 24 hours or up to 3 days.
  11. Once the bars are dry, set them on a drying rack or a shallow dish on their ends to cure for 5-6 weeks before enjoying them.
